Frequently Asked Questions

What does contemporary photography mean?

Everyone uses the terms “contemporary photography” and “lifestyle photography” to mean different things. For me, contemporary photography is a combination of lifestyle, unposed photographs with classical portraiture. I very rarely pose people (unless they are babies and can’t run away from me!) – I just let them be and let them play, and capture the essence of you and your family in the process.

Do you have a studio?

I don’t have a studio. I work exclusively on location – that can be your home, garden or a nearby park.

How far in advance do I need to book?

In order for me to provide you with the best service (and still be a wife and a mum) I only take a limited number of commissions each month. That means that usually I’m booked up 2-3 months in advance, so the earlier you contact me – the better. However it’s not unknown for me to book a photography session with only a few days’ notice – so do get in touch.

Does the session fee include digital files?

No. The session fee only covers my time and talent to take the photographs and work on them later, perfecting the images for you and getting them ready for print.

Can I purchase digital files?

Yes you can. Please refer to the price list I sent out to you if you enquired with me.

Is there a minimum spend requirement?

No, there isn’t a minimum spend requirement, but my clients typically spend between £400 and £1000 on various products and digital files.

I’d like to give a photography session as a gift for someone. Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes I do sell them – just email me for details. It’s always a good idea to buy a gift voucher that covers at least a session fee and a couple of products (for example a several prints or an album), so you know your friend or family can fully enjoy the experience. My clients typically spend between £400 and £1000 on various products in addition to the session fee.

What should we wear for our photography session?

Prior to your photography session I’ll send you an extensive guide on what is best to wear. But generally, whatever you normally wear on a special day out works perfectly.

Where the photography session is taking place?

When you book your session, we will discuss your requirements and decide on the location together. I may have a couple of suggestions, but the decision in always yours. Please note that travel sessions outside 30 miles return trip from West Molesey will incur an additional charge.

How much post-production work do you do in Photoshop?

The short answer is not a lot, but it does take time and expertise. The long answer is that I try to get the picture right in camera, there and then. Afterwards, I will usually only boost the colours and contrast a little bit, and prettify the skin when required.

I live in North London / Manchester / Paris. Will you travel to my place?

Unless I have a shoot the previous or the next day, I’m happy to travel reasonable distances, subject to additional travel costs.

My family and I are coming to London for holidays this summer from Europe / North America / Australia. We would like to book a photography session. Do you have any suggestions as to where we can have it?

Absolutely! I book quite a few of photography sessions like this and we tend to take pictures in the hot tourists spots such as South Bank and Tower Bridge. That said, I will never do the standard “family group looking at the camera with Tower Bridge in the background” type of picture. You really don’t need me for that. My approach is creative, and there’s just a hint of London in the photographs I create for you. If that’s something you’re after – let’s talk!
