You make me feel brand new…

I have finally given in and got myself a Pro subscription with Animoto (I remembered last time I tried to produce a video using iPhoto & iMovie and didn’t want to relive the experience). Then I’ve gathered together all my favourite images from recent portrait photography sessions… and produced this lovely video. Hope you enjoy…

Hi Antonina! I was again browsing in your blog (in the desperate need of smth positive on this rainy day… and your blog is always the right place to look for it:-) ) and I stumbled upon this amazing video I wish I had seen earlier. The song is so well chosen as it was written specifically for you :-) Reeeally enjoyed watching it – THANK YOU!

Changes

I’ve debated about posting this for couple of days now, but decided that in line with changes number 3 and 4, I’ve got no choice but to get it out there. And to hell with the consequences. This is going to be very personal and pretty long, but hang on in there! Today I wanted…

In many ways, were in such a similar situation. :) At least you’re a bit further with the moving thing, good luck with all that!

Antonina - January 27, 2010 - 8:26 am

I may be a bit further wit the move, but you’re miles ahead of me in terms of your photography. I hope it won’t take me long to catch up, but it is so unpredictable. Can only do the best I can and hope for the best!

Karie - January 27, 2010 - 10:57 am

I admire you because you’re approachably human. And knowing your past, and that you’re passionate and reaching out, is fantastic. You’ll go far!

And one thing for sure is true: You must keep on doing what you’re doing, because to sit stagnant would be an unfulfilling life! And your work is beautiful…

Best wishes for a great evening & rest of week,
Karie

Thank you so much Karie for your kind words… It’s really inspiring to be able to inspire others when you yourself look for inspiration. Good luck with your photography too!

Great to learn more about you Antonina. I am impressed with everything you have done so far! I can identify with trying to find the right niche …I have tried lots of different things too and would recommend it to anyone…it’s the only way you learn what you like (and don’t!). Fantastic to hear about your photography … congratulations!

Hey Jen, Thanks for your comment. Now you know why I don’t need to take FCC trains every day anymore ;)
I totally agree with you – you gotta try to find it. Very rarely do people find their thing after the very first attempt. But most stick with it because you’re considered a failure if you want to try again.
I know how scary and difficult it is to start again when you’re nearing 30, or 40, or whatever that’s over 20 or so! But it’s gotta be done if you’re no longer happy!

Aww, what a cute pic of you — I’m sure you were justly proud of those drawings!

I know I’ve said it over coffee and via email, but just wanted to say again good luck! Your photos are stunningly gorgeous (especially the ones of kids … I’m a sucker for cuties!) and I hope you go a very very long way in the world of professional photography. :-)

Thanks Ali for your kind words and good wishes!
I love kids – and they are also so much easier to photograph, as they are very natural and not self-aware at all. You just play with them, and click-click-click you get great pictures :)

I’m a photographer, not a terrorist

Yesterday, I’ve taken part in the Mass Photo Gathering at Trafalgar Square in support of the I’m a Photographer, not a Terrorist campaign. This morning, seeing thousands of pictures and good news coverage that followed this campaign, I am hopeful that something may change.

I count myself as lucky – unlike many, I never had to confront the police when taking pictures in public places or was stopped and search, or even arrested (yes, stories of photographers being arrested on suspicion of terrorism are countless). Mainly because I move swiftly when asked to leave by the security guards. However, the number of times I was questioned about my photography, even when clearly taking portraits of people (clients!), is astonishing. I was stopped at St Pancras station, and St Albans station (a guard ran from platform 1 to platform 6 because I was taking pictures of one of the station screens), at Elephant and Castle bus interchange (private property, no pictures), even outside Queen’s House at Greenwich Park, while on a portrait photoshoot!

ProPhoto3 is here!

ProPhoto3 – a new version of a fantastic Wordpress template for professional photographers – has been officially released last week, and what an update! Together with other photographers, I’ve been beta-testing the new release throughout December, and was thoroughly impressed with the new functionality. What’s more Jared & Matt and the rest of the ProPhoto team were not just concerned with bug-fixing: they really listened to all our feedback and suggestions and made many feature requests part of the new release. I couldn’t be happier!
