Meet Mandy Lehto

Okay, okay, I’ve been raving about Mandy for a very very long time now. Maybe I should explain exactly why.

It all started on a dull October evening last year, when I was feeling pretty miserable, not in love with myself at all, wanting to change something in my life but being not quite sure what. By then I was toying an idea of hiring an image consultant for quite some time, but funnily enough didn’t have the confidence to do even that. Still, I googled for “image consultant in London” and stared at thousands and thousands of search results. I opened one website after another, not being inspired, reading about all those people who claimed they would help me to find my true image, but – honestly – I wasn’t convinced. I mean seriously, if I was going to open myself up to those people, and let them learn about all my insecurities and life-changing plans ( I was about to quit my day job and start my photography business), I needed to be able to trust them and click with them from the word go. And most of them didn’t even have pictures of themselves on their websites! An image consultant without a photograph of themselves? You gotta be kidding me!

So I’ve almost given up. And then I found Mandy’s website. And she didn’t only have pictures – she had videos. Seeing her talk and interact with her clients I realised she’s exactly the kind of person I need – she knew what she was doing, but wasn’t pushy. She understood my problems and knew how to fix them, but she wasn’t going to change who I am as a person. She was determined to help women like me without judging them. She looked great and confident but at the same time really approachable.

So I shot her an email. Same evening – at 11 o’clock at night! – she replied. She was so enthusiastic, and so open, I knew she was the right person to help me and booked her on the spot – and boy I was right! Mandy helped me a great deal – I no longer buy stuff that I never wear, I know what colours suit me, I am confident in my style choices and I am comfortable with who I am and how I dress – and I don’t really care what others might think. She somehow managed to dig deep and find the real me – something I myself couldn’t do. It’s pure magic, people!

So how come I’m writing this long-long rave about Mandy? Well, because this time she booked me and in just a moment I’m going to show you some pictures of her!

Being not only a great image consultant but a smart business person Mandy realises that every now and again she needs new imagery on her website – photographs that make her stand out from the crowd and photographs that – better than any words – will tell her potential clients what kind of person she is and if she’s the right fit for them.

So we started off with some “stock” imagery that Mandy could use on her website – showing bits of her studio and glimpses into how she works with a client:

And then we headed off to the City of London – Mandy’s former playground (she enjoyed a successful banking career before deciding to launch her own image consulting and coaching business).

And as we wrapped up the shoot and were heading off to the station, Mandy spotted this backstreet. And I swear I walked right past that street a dozen times before and never seen it. Can you believe this? What a find!!

And now if you managed to read right to the end of this post, I recommend you go to Mandy’s image consulting website right now, have a look around and book her there and then!

Family photography in Hampstead Heath

I must confess: I LOVE my clients. They are the loveliest, friendliest and most caring people in the whole world. And ever since I’ve announced I am pregnant, everyone is just so super nice to me! They carry my bags, they feed me, they bring me water, they insist I take breaks during our sessions. Obviously, most of the women I photograph were pregnant not so long ago, so they know full well how tiring it is at times – so they go out of their way to help me. I don’t have the words to express how much I appreciate it!

This family was no exception – just super nice people! Although we had to reschedule the session due to the unpredictable British weather, in the end I’m glad we did – little Nathaniel isn’t a confident walker quite yet, and Hampstead Heath isn’t famous for being completely flat, so we had a few falls along the way – something that wouldn’t have been as amusing if it was muddy.

And the sheer amount of information they shared with me – from buggy choices to raising a bilingual child – is just incredible. I’m so lucky to have met you, guys! Thank you for a wonderful day!

And did you see that super-cute t-shirt they bought specifically for this photoshoot?:)

Lavender field

On Monday I travelled to Hitchin to meet up with Tamara Kuzminski – a fabulous wedding photographer based in Hertfordshire. The plan was to shoot in a lavender & sunflower field not far from Tamara’s home, but when we arrived it was raining on and off, it was muddy (and we weren’t wearing appropriate footwear) and sunflowers were clearly missing the sun in them, so we managed to grab just a couple of shots before heading home for late lunch and shop talk.

It’s so good to be able to talk with fellow photographers and share your experiences – both positive and negative. Photography is a lonely profession, and most of our days are spent in our offices in front of our computers, so getting out and talking to your peers is really, really important.

Thanks for having me, Tamara! Here are a few snaps of the lovely lavender field – I shall come back next year for a proper photoshoot!

A brunette + a redhead + a blond = a fun family session

I *finally* get to blog this session – sorry it’s taken me so long!

3 siblings sitting on a countryside gate

Meet Flynn, Poppy and Esme – 3 laid-back, barefoot and fun-loving siblings I got to photograph back in July. I totally loved their relaxed attitude and their house with lots of space for running around, a trampoline and a hammock was a perfect spot for a family session.

Being my usual self, I just let the kids run loose and followed them with my camera. And here’s what happened…

Yes, they had a cat, too…

… and a dog!

Nope, the horse wasn’t theirs, but there was talk about getting one!

I had so much fun! It was one of those sessions when you have to force yourself to wrap up the shoot – we could have continued for much, much longer! Hope you enjoyed looking:)

Family fun on South Bank (and beyond…)

Just before I was off on holiday, I had a pleasure of photographing a Canadian family who were over in London for work and wanted to capture their time here.

We started off on South Bank in the morning, with an aim to capture them in very obviously London location but without it looking too touristy (and it ain’t easy!), and then moving on closer to home, in Surbiton, where the grandparents joined the fun for another hour or so. You could call it a “destination family photography session”!

It was a hot-hot-hot day, with blazing sun, so we moved from shade to shade to avoid completely melting down! Here is a selection of some of my favourite pictures from that glorious day.
